The St Mary’s Y10 and Y11 girls’ badminton team took part in the Sainsbury’s school games competition today at the Tyneside Badminton Centre.
Controlled Assessments are extended tasks that students complete in certain subjects during Year 10 and Year 11.
The Year 8 Boys Cricket Team played today in the Northumbria Cricket Board Tournament at the Westgate Centre for Sport.
Our Open Evening begins with a presentation at 6.00pm, from the Headteacher, Head of Sixth Form and current students, followed by the opportunity to meet subject teachers and students representing all departments.
The year 7 & 8 girls’ team played in the RFU Festival at Druids Park. The girls played 4 games against Churchill A, Gosforth A, Churchill B and Gosforth B – finishing with 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss against the eventual winners, Churchill A.
Year Twelve and Thirteen students are currently being prepared in lessons for a series of mock exams in a number of subjects.

Year 10
- Review of topics – Weimar Germany 1919-1929 and Hitler’s Germany 1929-1945. The study of this period in German History where so many notable and far-reaching events took place.
- War in Vietnam 1954-1975, specifically US involvement in the war, guerrilla tactics and how the US responded to these, the media war and protests against the war.
- Controlled Assessment unit focused on Britain and the First and Second World Wars.
Year 11
- Peace-making 1918-1919 and the League of Nations – focusing on how the Treaty of Versailles attempted to establish peace and why the League of Nations failed to maintain peace.
- Hitler’s Foreign Policy and the Origins of Second World War. Study of the series of invasions led by Germany in the 1930’s including the Anschluss and the occupation of Czechoslovakia and Poland.
- Origins of Cold War 1945-1960 and how rivalry developed between USA and USSR, including the development of the nuclear arms race and the space race.
On Wednesday 11th November, our whole school community gathered in the atrium around our ‘field of remembrance’ for a service of commemoration for all those who have died in war.
