There are two components to the Core Maths.
Both components include the use of pre-release material, which will be made available in advance of the examination. Students are able to familiarise themselves with the contexts and data in advance so that they can focus on problem solving during the examination. Component 01: Introduction to quantitative reasoningStudents use problem-solving cycles in modelling, statistics and financial mathematics in a variety of contexts, and check the outcomes of their calculations. They also use appropriate technology to work with quantitative information. Marks = 72 Duration = 2 hour Weighting = 50% Component 02: Critical mathsStarting from a problem to solve, a quantitative statement to evaluate or a question that has mathematics underlying it, students use a number of skills and processes in engaging in their reasoning. They are expected to think flexibly and use their mathematical and statistical knowledge to make logical and reasoned decisions. Marks = 60 Duration = 2 hour Weighting = 50% Both components include synoptic assessment. A minimum of 25% of assessment for this qualification will be synoptic. |

Recent graduate information has shown people with an A-Level in Mathematics have progressed into employment with roles such as a data analyst, data scientist, business analyst and property developer. |
