St Mary’s Year 7 Rugby team played in a round robin series of 7-a-side matches against Churchill Community College on Thursday evening. Game 1 was played with the A and B teams facing off against their opposites, with the fixtures being split with the A team recording an excellent 8-3 victory, while the B team were narrowly defeated 6-4.
There were excellent performances across both pitches, with Jay Good excelling in defence with some excellent tackling. Bobby Ramsey scored the highlight try of the first round of fixtures, powering through and carrying 4 Churchill defenders and extending the ball for the try.
Game 2 saw the respective A and B teams face off, and St Mary’s B performed brilliantly to defeat Churchill A 7 tries to 3. The A team almost stole victory in the final moments of their game, but Jay Good was unfortunate to have the ball knocked from his grasp just as he reached for the line, resulting in a 4 tries each draw.
