43 students from the Year 8 and 9 Football and Netball team represented St Mary’s in our Sport Tour to Paris, in May. Students arrived to Paris on Monday evening, settling down ready for the first day of sport. Students had the opportunity to visit the local shopping centre on the first evening.
On Tuesday morning, students had the opportunity to do some sightseeing in Paris, visiting the Eiffel Tower and went on the Bateaux Mouches cruise. Following sightseeing, all students headed over to the Britis
h School of Paris for the first fixture. The girls played Netball and the boys played football. The Year 8 Netball team, captained by Grace Taylor, had a very successfully afternoon, winning 2 out of 3 oppositions. The year 8’s won comfortably to the year 7 and year 8 team, only losing out to a very strong year 9 team. The Year 9 Netball team, captained by Lucy Hobbs, similarly, won two out of 3 games, only losing out to the experienced year 9 team. All girls played tremendously, representing St Mary’s excellently and thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon. The year 8 boys football team, captained by John Carr, won their first fixture 5-3, and the year 9 boys team, captained by Aidan Williams, won their first fixture 7-0. The boys worked extremely hard, playing excellently as a team, thoroughly enjoying their afternoon of sport.
On Wednesday, students had a full day of playing sport! This was most definitely a highlight for many students. Students had the opportunity to visit the Monteparnasse tower in the morning, followed by a PSG training session delivered by PSG coaches! Students thoroughly enjoyed this experience, taking away many tips for their evening fixtures against a very strong local club. The girls’ football team were tremendous, with some girls playing for the first time. Unfortunately, the girls lost 4-2 but this was an exceptional result against a strong club team. The highlight of the game was the first goal scored by Grace Taylor, who took an excellent free kick! The boys displayed a similar effort, just losing out but achieved a good result against two strong sides.
The final day was an amazing opportunity to attend Roland Garros. We had the opportunity to see some world class tennis players such as Jamie Murray, Heather Watson, Aljaz Bedene and Feliciano Lopez. This was a fantastic day with some excellent tennis observed. Staff and students had a very enjoyable experience on our first ever St Mary’s Sport Tour!
