The KS3 Girls Rugby Team took part in the RFU Emerging Schools Festival at Sutherland Park today.
The girls played 5 matches against Excelsior, Gosforth High (A&B) and Whickham School (A&B). In winning 4 matches and losing just 1 the girls finished deserving champions on the day! Eve Blakey (5), Grace Taylor (3) and Chloe Mason (4) were among the top scorers in the tournament and really finished well when given the opportunity to attack. The effort shown by the entire team in defence was outstanding, with the whole team making tackle after tackle to keep their opponents at bay. This led to St Mary’s finishing the day with 15 tries whilst only conceding 3.
The group were a pleasure to take and despite their relative inexperience played some excellent rugby in both attack and defence, finishing deserving winners!
The Team:
Mariyah Ahmed, Grace Taylor, Ellen Parker, Hannah Crowdy, Megan Lucas, Thea Cowie, Chloe Mason, Kate Lievesley, Eve Blakey, Lily Young.
Player of the Day
Lily Young – demonstrated excellent technique when carrying the ball and when making tackles. Lily was very encouraging to her teammates and was a fine example throughout the afternoon.
