St Mary’s Year 9 girls rugby team took part in the Emerging Schools Festival at Druid’s Park today. The girls played in 3 fixtures against St Thomas More North Shields, Excelsior and Duchess Community High School. The girls played some excellent rugby, really showing off their power and speed when they had the ball. In defence the stars of the day were Thea Cowie and Grace Taylor, although in their first game for the team Grace Brown and Alanah Hammond showed no nerves and tackled brilliantly. The team finished the day with 1 win and 2 defeats, scoring 7 tries, and have real potential to improve quickly in the future as they gain more experience. The next festival for the girls will be the Emerging Schools Festival in January where hopefully the team can improve on their excellent performance.
