Our theme this week is Strength. The theme comes from the letter of St Paul to the Philippians, where St Paul writes, “There is nothing I cannot master with the help of the One who gives me strength.” In the Thoughts and Prayers this week, students are exploring what strength is and how it can be expressed.
Finnley Banforth Brown in Year 11 has been chosen to attend a 5 day MoD Camp at Queen Elizabeth Barracks in York as part of his RAF cadets training. He is quite rightly incredibly proud of his achievement. Finnley was promoted to Corporal in the summer and had to pass a very rigorous process to get a place on this training camp. He plans to complete an Aerospace Engineering degree in the future and then join the RAF. A wonderful achievement!
The Headteacher’s Awards went to the following students this week, for a wide range of accomplishments including excellent work and effort in lessons and superb contributions towards the wider life of the school. We are very proud of all of their contributions and achievements.
Jan Siemens in Year 10 has applied to the Anne Frank Trust to be part of their Ambassador programme. He has been successful in his application and has been selected to become an Anne Frank Ambassador as part of their Youth Empowerment Programme. This is a wonderful achievement and the Trust were very impressed by Jan’s application and praised him for showing commitment and passion in developing his voice in challenging prejudice and discrimination. Absolutely wonderful news.
Congratulations to Niamh Boothroyd in Year 12 who signed a contract with Sunderland AFC Women’s Team in the summer and is now playing for both their U21 and U23 teams, despite only being 16! Niamh has now scored 5 goals in 6 matches for the teams. An incredible achievement! She also hopes to be selected to play in a national team (either England or Northern Ireland) for the upcoming U17 Women’s Euro Football Championships in Hungary.
A huge well done to the Year 11 students who have been completing their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards. It was lovely to see their presentations last night and to hear them share how much they have learned and gained from the experience. Thanks also to colleagues, who have supported the students so well, including all of the students who are completing the Bronze and Gold Awards too.

The Feast day of St Francis of Assisi is celebrated on 4th October.
The Prayer of Saint Francis
Lord,
Make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
Our theme in school this week is Harvest. This theme comes from the Parable of the Rich Fool who built up his material wealth but missed the opportunity to help those around him. The theme also fits in with Cafod Harvest Fast Day which takes place on Friday 6th October. Students will be encouraged this week to think about how they can put faith into action.
