During Lent, every Year Group led a Lenten Fayre to raise money for their charity. A wide range of stalls were run by Form Groups and in total around £890.00 has been raised. Well done everyone!

Some further great chess news! St Mary’s ‘A’ team won a Year 7/8 tournament this week, involving 14 teams from six local schools. This means that the team has secured a place in the national finals of the English Chess Federation’s Junior Chess Challenge, which will be held at the RGS in Jesmond on Saturday, 25th March. They will compete against schools from across the country (many from the Greater London area) for a very prestigious title. The members of this team are Otto Nemeth, Karthikeyan Nandakumar, Albert Pozarlik and Brayan Okojie Solomon.

A number of students from Years 10,11 and 12 travelled to Wembley Arena on Saturday 4th March to take part in Flame. A variety of speakers and musicians led the day and there was time to meet new people from around the country.
St Mary’s ‘A’ team for chess has, for the second year in succession, made it through to the national finals of the National Schools Chess Championships. This event will involve the top 20 or so school chess teams in the country and will be held at the University of Nottingham in June 2023. The team finished top in their group. The team is comprised of students from Year 12 and 13: Ciaran Macdonald, Alexander Johnston, Feitong Wu, Daniel Francis, Daniel Gazerani-Lopez and Jonathan Jativa-Calle. Huge congratulations to these students.
Congratulations to Hallie-Jo Flynn in Year 12. Hallie-Jo has been part of the North-east cheerleading team for 6 years and for the first time this Easter, the team will be competing in the European Championships in Amsterdam. An incredible achievement!
