Thoughts and Prayers 5th -9th February

Our scripture this week comes from 1 Corinthians 9:16-19, 22-23. The message of this passage is primarily about Paul’s deep sense of responsibility to preach the gospel and bring the message of Christ to others. It reflects his commitment to fulfilling the trust or calling that has been placed upon him. Paul emphasises that this responsibility is not merely a choice but an obligation that he must fulfill willingly, recognizing the potential consequences if he were to neglect it.

In the context of responsibility, this passage encourages us to take our callings and obligations seriously, understanding that there may be sacrifices involved in fulfilling those responsibilities. It also emphasises the importance of being flexible and adaptable in how one approaches and communicates with others in the fulfillment of our responsibilities.

Thoughts and Prayers – 15th – 19th January 2024

Our theme of ‘listen’ this week is from the Old Testament of the Bible, specifically from the book of 1 Samuel 3:9. ​The context of this verse is the story of the young boy Samuel, who was serving in the house of the Lord under the high priest Eli. One night, while Samuel was lying down in the temple, he heard a voice calling his name. Thinking it was Eli, Samuel went to him and said, “Here I am; you called me.” ​However, Eli had not called him and instructed Samuel to go back and lie down. This happened three times, and finally, Eli realised that it might be the Lord who was calling Samuel.​ So, Eli advised Samuel to respond to the voice by saying, “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.” Samuel followed Eli’s guidance, and in the subsequent encounter, God spoke to Samuel, revealing important messages and plans for the future.​ The passage is often interpreted as a model of attentive and humble submission to God’s will. By saying, “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening,” Samuel expresses his readiness to hear and obey God’s guidance. ​It reflects a posture of humility, attentiveness, and a willingness to serve and follow God’s instructions. ​The phrase shows how one should approach God with an open heart, ready to receive divine guidance and direction in their lives. The theme will encourages us all to listen to God, tune in to silence, embrace the power of music, and most importantly, listen to ourselves.

Thoughts and Prayers – 8th – 12th January 2024

Our theme in school this week is Searching.

The scripture is taken from Isaiah 60:1. Isaiah was known for his prophecies concerning Israel, Judah, and the surrounding nations​.

This part of the book contains prophecies about a future time of restoration and blessing for Jerusalem. It speaks of a time when God’s light will shine upon the city, drawing nations and kings to its brightness.​
This scripture links to the theme of searching through the idea of seeking spiritual enlightenment or guidance. The verse encourages us all to “arise and shine,” suggesting an active movement, a purposeful rising from darkness into light. This can be seen as a metaphor for seeking truth, understanding, or a deeper connection with God.

Bin-fluencers!

18th December 2023Miss C Rossi

Some fantastic news to share, some of our students entered a competition run by a packaging recycling organisation called Alupro. The competition was called ‘Bin-fluencers’ and students had to design their own recycling bin. They had to include a recycling message and be as creative as possible. St Mary`s students won first, second and third place out of the 200 entries!  Absolutely fantastic news.

Simone Ilao in Year 9 won first prize and an IPad.

Tristan Allan in Year 8 won second prize, with Maja Iwan in Year 9 in third place, and both won vouchers.

We also get £500 of vouchers for school and the actual recycling bin made! The designs by the students are below.
