Students at St Mary’s Catholic School in Newcastle have been celebrating their excellent GCSE results today. Grades across all subjects were outstanding. 86% of students gained grade 4 or above in Maths and English, with 72% securing a Grade 5+ and 28% receiving Grade 7+ in both subjects. At 60.7, our Attainment 8 score is exceptionally high too, which means that the average grade for all students across eight GCSE subjects is over 6. Performance was also very strong in the Ebacc, which measures outcomes in Maths, English, Science, Languages and the Humanities. Over 46% of students secured Grade 5 or above in these five subject areas.

Headteacher Emma Patterson said, “We are very proud of our wonderful Year 11 students for achieving such outstanding GCSE results. The students have worked exceptionally hard over the last two years and have continued to thrive at St Mary’s, despite the many challenges of the pandemic. The students’ hard work, dedication and efforts, coupled with the high quality teaching, support, and pastoral care they have received from our superb teaching and support staff team, have been integral to this success. We look forward to welcoming back the vast majority of our Year 11 students into our Sixth Form in September and for those moving on to pastures new, we wish them every possible success and happiness”.
