Celebration of Student Success

10th October 2022Miss C Rossi

At St Mary’s Sixth Form we believe that each student should be given equality of opportunity to achieve their full spiritual, academic and social potential by recognising the uniqueness of each individual and providing a rich and varied learning experience for everyone.

We believe that all students have amazing God-given gifts and talents. Our role as educators is to help our students recognise their unique gifts and talents.

We celebrate all students each and every day here at school in a variety of ways, to ensure that students feel valued and commended for their efforts both within and outside of school.

To read more about how we implement this strategy, please see the document below:

Student Leadership Scheme

10th July 2022Miss C Rossi

As the most senior students in the school, Sixth Form students aact as positive role models for all other students in the school community guiding them both academically and pastorally.

This involves Sixth Form students taking an active part in school life through the ‘Student Leadership Scheme’ where students are entrusted with leadership roles in various aspects of school life, with activities such as running extra-curricular activities, acting as classroom assistants, and assisting the duty staff.

It is of paramount importance that our Sixth Form students are visible in all aspects of day-to-day school life to assist and enrich the experience of other students whilst preparing them for leading others in the modern world.

Student Leadership Scheme Activities

There are three groups of activities offered on the Student Leadership Scheme.

Running an Extra-Curricular Activity

Sixth Form students would supervise Main School students in an activity run outside of lessons.

Example: Origami Club, Geography Documentary Club

Helping as a Lesson Assistant

Sixth Form students would assist a teacher in a lesson with lower school students.

Supporting the Pastoral/Spiritual Life of the School

Sixth Form students would carry out a whole school activity supporting the pastoral or spirituality team.

Example: Year 7 Book Club, Spirituality Team Member

St Mary’s Virtual Open Evening 2021

22nd September 2021Miss C Rossi

Unfortunately, we will not be able to go ahead with our usual in school Open Evening this year. We have made this difficult decision due to the high level of COVID-19 in the community. The health and safety of our staff, students and visitors is of paramount importance to us and we feel that gathering large groups together in school at this time would be too much of a health and safety risk.

Following the success of our ‘Virtual Open Evening’ last year, we will be holding our Open Evening virtually again this year via our school website. Over the next two weeks, we will be uploading various videos and presentations to our Open Evening area which will include:

  • Talk/presentation from the Headteacher Miss Patterson
  • Talk/presentation from Director for Student Support Miss Largue and the pastoral team
  • Student video testimonies
  • Talk/presentation from our SENCO
  • Department showcases (presentations from each of our subject departments with subject/curriculum specific information)
  • A copy of the prospectus
  • A video tour of the school

We hope that all of these resources will be useful and give you all of the information that you need. However, should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us here at School via telephone or email.
If you have any admissions specific queries, then please contact Julie Patterson (Headteacher’s PA).
